If you have
prostate cancer,
breast cancer, or endometriosis, a healthcare provider may prescribe Zoladex
® (
goserelin acetate implant). Given by injection, this implant is inserted just under the skin on the abdomen (stomach). The implant does not have to be removed from the body, as it dissolves gradually over either a 4-week or 12 -week period (depending on which strength of the medicine is used).
Zoladex works by overstimulating the pituitary gland, which causes the body to stop producing testosterone in men and estrogen in women. This decrease in testosterone and estrogen is responsible for the drug's beneficial effects.
