Supprelin LA and Breastfeeding

It is not known if Supprelin LA (histrelin implant) passes through breast milk or if it would harm a nursing infant. However, the medication does affect estrogen levels within the body, and this could interfere with the production of breast milk. Because this medicine is only approved for use in children, it is unlikely that a woman would use Supprelin LA while breastfeeding.

Can Breastfeeding Women Use Supprelin LA?

Supprelin® LA (histrelin implant) is a prescription medication approved for the treatment of central precocious puberty (CPP), a condition that causes early puberty in children. It is a hormone medicine that reduces blood levels of testosterone (in boys) and estrogen (in girls), so that puberty can be temporarily stopped.

At this time, it is unknown if Supprelin LA passes through breast milk. This medication should not be used in women who are breastfeeding.

More Information on Supprelin LA and Breastfeeding

There is limited information available on Supprelin LA and breastfeeding. This medicine has not been studied in breastfeeding women, so it is unknown if the medication passes through breast milk where it could potentially harm a nursing child. In addition, it is unknown if the medication affects breast milk supply. However, because it affects hormone levels, there is a possibility that it may also affect breast milk production.

Supprelin LA is only approved for use in children who are undergoing early puberty. Therefore, it is unlikely that the medication would be used in a breastfeeding mother.
