Supprelin Implant
Children who have a condition called central precocious puberty may benefit from Supprelin® LA (histrelin implant). This prescription medication is specifically designed to help stop puberty that has started too early in boys and girls. Supprelin LA is a type of implant, which is inserted just under the skin of the upper arm. After it is inserted, this implant gradually releases a controlled amount of medicine for 12 months.
Supprelin LA is a synthetic (manufactured) form of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), which is a hormone found naturally in the body. This medicine works by preventing the testes from making testosterone and the ovaries from making estrogen. This causes the levels of testosterone (in boys) and estrogen (in girls) to decrease, temporarily stopping puberty.
