Men who have a certain type of
prostate cancer may benefit from PROVENGE
® (
sipuleucel-T). This medicine is created by taking a man's own immune cells and mixing them with a protein that activates them to attack prostate cancer cells. PROVENGE is sometimes called a vaccine for prostate cancer because it activates the immune system.
However, unlike vaccines used to prevent diseases, PROVENGE is used to treat prostate cancer that already exists in the body. It is not used to prevent prostate cancer.
