PROVENGE Cancer Drug Information

PROVENGE® (sipuleucel-T) is a medication licensed for the treatment of prostate cancer that has spread to other areas of the body (metastasized). It is used in men who have minimal or no cancer symptoms and who no longer adequately respond to hormone treatment.

This medicine is created specifically for each man, using his own immune cells. Some of these cells are removed from the bloodstream and then mixed with a protein that activates the immune cells to attack prostate cancer cells. In clinical studies, men using this drug lived approximately four months longer than those who used a placebo (a medicine that did not contain any active ingredients).

Before treating prostate cancer with PROVENGE, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on any other drugs you are taking (including vitamins and supplements), as well as any allergies you may have, including to medications, foods, dyes, or preservatives. Also, let your healthcare provider know if you have certain medical issues, such as problems with your heart or liver.
