Lupron Depot Drug Information

Lupron Depot® (leuprolide acetate depot), which comes in one-month, three-month, four-month, and pediatric forms, is a medication approved to:
 
  • Reduce symptoms of advanced prostate cancer
  • Manage symptoms of endometriosis (a condition in which the tissue that normally lines the uterus grows outside the uterus)
  • Improve anemia before surgery for uterine fibroids (when used in combination with iron)
  • Treat precocious (early) puberty in children.
     
This drug comes in the form of a powder, which is then mixed with water and injected into a muscle. Lupron Depot is not effective if taken by mouth. The amount your healthcare provider prescribes will depend on the condition being treated, among other things.
 
Prior to using Lupron Depot, your healthcare provider needs information on your complete medical history. This includes any other conditions you have; any family history of conditions like osteoporosis, depression, or diabetes; and any other medications you are taking, including nonprescription medicines.
