Firmagon Medication Information
Firmagon® (degarelix) is a drug prescribed to slow down the progression of advanced prostate cancer in adult men. It is available as an injection that is given just under the skin of the abdomen (stomach). After the medicine is injected, it forms a depot (or a small mass) under the surface of the skin that gradually releases the medication over a 28-day period.
Firmagon works by decreasing testosterone levels in the body. This can help slow down the growth of testosterone-sensitive prostate cancer cells.
Although the medicine is generally well tolerated, it is not suitable for everyone. Before using Firmagon, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on your medical history and a list of your current medications. In particular, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you have heart disease, osteoporosis, or any problems with your kidneys or liver.
