Fentanyl Nasal Spray Information

Fentanyl nasal spray (Lazanda®) is a medication licensed for the treatment of breakthrough cancer pain. Breakthrough pain refers to intense flares of pain that occur despite around-the-clock pain medication. This product is only approved for use in adults who are already used to the effects of opioid narcotics.
 
This prescription medication comes in the form of a nasal spray. The usual dose is one or two sprays into the nostril, as needed (but no more than four times a day). Side effects of the drug may include constipation, nausea, and vomiting.
 
Before using fentanyl nasal spray, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on any other drugs you are taking (including vitamins and supplements), as well as any allergies you may have, including to medications, foods, dyes, or preservatives. Also, let your healthcare provider know if you have certain medical issues, such as problems with your heart or liver.
