Docetaxel (Taxotere)

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved docetaxel (Taxotere®) as a treatment for various types of cancer. This chemotherapy medication belongs to a class of drugs called taxanes, and it is used to treat the following types of cancer:
 
The medication is administered intravenously (through an IV). To prevent fluid retention and allergic reactions, you will need to take an oral steroid, such as dexamethasone (Decadron®), before (and sometimes after) each dose of this medication. Common side effects of docetaxel include anemia and hair loss.
