Prostate Cancer Home > Jevtana Uses
If you have prostate cancer that has not responded adequately to certain other treatments, your healthcare provider may recommend using Jevtana. This prescription medication is specifically reserved for men who have already tried docetaxel (Taxotere) without success. Jevtana is only approved for adults age 18 and older, and works by preventing the cancer cells from growing and multiplying.
What Is Jevtana Used For?Jevtana® (cabazitaxel) is a prescription medication approved for the treatment of prostate cancer. It is reserved for "refractory" cases that have not responded adequately to hormone therapy in people who have already tried docetaxel (Taxotere®).
A prostate cancer diagnosis means that cancer cells have formed in the tissues of the prostate. Prostate cancer tends to grow slowly compared with most other cancers. Cell changes may begin 10, 20, or 30 years before a tumor gets big enough to cause symptoms. Eventually, cancer cells may spread (metastasize) throughout the body. By the time symptoms appear, the cancer may be more advanced.
Most cases of prostate cancer never pose a problem. There are either no signs or symptoms, or the disease never becomes a serious threat to a man's health. A much smaller percentage of men are actually treated for prostate cancer. Most men with the condition, however, do not die from this disease. The prognosis varies, depending on the stage (see Prostate Cancer Prognosis and Stages of Prostate Cancer).
Prostate cancer treatment may involve:
- Watchful waiting (see Watchful Waiting for Prostate Cancer)
- Surgery (see Prostate Cancer Surgery)
- Radiation therapy (see Radiation Treatment for Prostate Cancer)
- Hormone therapy (see Prostate Cancer Hormone Therapy)
- Chemotherapy (such as Jevtana).
In addition, you may have a combination of treatment methods.
