The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Eligard® (leuprolide acetate) for prostate cancer. Specifically, this medication is used to treat disease that has spread beyond the prostate and is therefore considered to be in an advanced state. Eligard can help slow down the disease's progression and provide relief from symptoms; however, it is not a cure.
Although Eligard is used primarily for prostate cancer, it does have some unapproved ("off-label") uses. These include the treatment of breast or ovarian cancer, among other things.
