Lupron Depot Pediatric
Lupron Depot® (leuprolide acetate depot) is a prescription hormone medication approved to treat the following conditions:
- Advanced prostate cancer
- Endometriosis
- Uterine fibroids
- Central precocious puberty (puberty that occurs too soon) in children.
When giving this medication to children, the standard dose is based on the child's body weight. Typical starting doses of Lupron Depot Pediatric include the following:
- Children who weigh 25 kg or less (55 pounds or less) will receive 7.5 mg every four weeks
- Children who weigh 25 to 37.5 kg (55 to 82.5 pounds) will receive 11.25 mg every four weeks
- Children who weigh more than 37.5 kg (82.5 pounds) will receive 15 mg every four weeks.
Your child's healthcare provider will monitor your child's response to treatment after one or two months and increase the dose if needed. Injections of Lupron Depot Pediatric should be stopped before age 11 in girls and age 12 in boys to allow for normal sexual maturation.
